When a cold store is installed on an upper floor in a building, its low temperature will gradually transfer into the ceiling of the room below. Over time and particularly in humid climates, this can cause condensation to form. As well as damaging the ceiling, drips of condensation can be a nuisance or dangerous for people working below; condensation can also damage equipment and stock which is stored there.
To prevent potentially serious problem, installers recommend a combination of insulation and low level heating in the floor of new cold stores.
Proven solutions
Thermatek® provide a range of condensation prevention systems, which combine thermal insulation and energy-efficient, low-voltage heating. The heating elements are thermostatically controlled so that they apply just enough energy to prevent condensation from forming on the ceiling below. The insulation makes sure that the heat is directed down into the floor/ceiling without impacting the temperature of the cold store above.
