The doorframes, thresholds and ramps into cold stores can attract condensation which quickly freezes. This ice can cause doors to stick and make ramps dangerously slippery. Where a cold store is used frequently the problem can be particularly acute.
However by heating these surfaces to maintain a steady temperature, it is possible to minimise condensation and prevent ice from forming.
Doorframe heating systems
Thermatek® have developed a low voltage heating system which is optimised for protecting areas around cold store doors [get datasheets]. It includes an efficient transformer and low profile heating elements, in either tape or cable form. We are happy to help you select the right combination of element and transformer to suit the thermal properties of the doorframe that you are installing.
The system is suitable for cold stores with hinged or sliding doors. It can be installed to run around three or four sides of the frame. Where necessary, it can also be specified for installation into the door rather than the frame.
Threshold and ramp heating systems
Our product range includes high quality, heavy duty threshold and ramp heating systems. The heating element is supplied as a preformed unit, suitable for installation under a concrete screed or steel plate.
The complete system is supplied with an efficient, low voltage transformer and suitable connecting wires. They are designed to keep the threshold or ramp free of ice and frost, so they are safe for access on foot and with vehicles at all times.
