Frequently Asked Questions on heating systems

Answers to your most common questions about Thermatek® solutions and how they protect your facility.

Issues & solutions

Learn about Thermatek’s frost heave prevention technology, how our systems operate, and what sets them apart in the industry.

Frost heave occurs when moisture in the ground beneath a cold store freezes and expands, pushing up the floor and causing structural damage.

Condensation happens when warm, humid air meets cold surfaces, leading to water buildup, which can cause safety hazards, mold growth, and structural damage.

Yes, without proper insulation and heating, condensation can form on ceilings and walls below the freezer, leading to water damage and mold issues.

Cold air escapes from the freezer, cooling the surface and allowing moisture from the surrounding air to freeze, creating ice buildup.

Yes. Ground temperatures remain consistent below a certain depth, so frost heave can still occur even in warm climates.

No, the heat produced is enough to stop the cold permeating lower down into the sub floor or lower floor only.

Thermostats control the temperature at the Sub Floor level to ensure ice cannot form below it.

This would depend on the product design, we would expect the wires to run at 15 to 30°C but on special projects our heater has been successfully run at over 90°C.

The subfloor level temperature set point would normally be around + 7°C for a ground floor project or higher 20 - 26°C if for upper floors or mezzanine projects in warmer climates.

A small room of 2 x 2 Mtrs of Thermatrad or ThermaMod system, should take no longer that 2 hours for one installing engineer

The largest of rooms can take many days for two or more installation engineers.

Yes, our system is adaptable to all sizes and types of cold storage facilities.

Yes, it is recommended to check that the system is functioning correctly on a regular basis. Where no remote monitoring has been included, the system should be checked visually to ensure the subfloor is maintained at the designed temperature.

We provide monitoring options to ensure proper operation and temperature control. The temperature sensor in the sub-base will relay the temperature to our control panel which is then shown on our display.

This is extremely rare. Where critical backup is needed, we offer a dual-wire backup system and in addition a fully backed-up control system.

Yes. We offer a ‘Recovery Heating System’ that can be installed in freezers or cold stores with existing condensation issues.

Yes, we can provide installation services.

It is possible to install it yourself, but we require an electrician to sign off on the installation and resistance measurements for each wire installed to validate the warranty.
